Synopsis
Martín, a withdrawn man in his fifties, arrives to volunteer at a rural animal refuge. Guided through the farm by the owner’s ten-year-old daughter, he finds himself more at ease with the animals, especially an ailing donkey, than with the people trying to reach him.
My second-year thesis film at ESCAC, a very low budget, complex shoot with animals, children, and a location fragile enough that every day on set was a small negotiation. From the start I worked hand-in-hand with the director, Àiman Fina, on everything: building the project creatively, scouting locations, and finding funding. We both knew this short would matter for where we went next, so we treated it as a real step up, not a student exercise. Whatever it ends up doing beyond that, what I care about is that it holds months of intense work, real emotional investment, and a way of making films I want to keep building on. It hasn’t premiered yet.
